Another shot at AQUIND 25 February 2025 Our letter from the forum and ALL of our councillors sent to the Planning Inspectorate on Tuesday 25th February, 2025: Unique Reference 20025182 Further to our e-mail to PINS of 30th March 2023 (see below) we submit the following comments explaining why HM Government should not support the granting of a Development Consent Order (DCO) to AQUIND for rights to use Portsmouth as an Interconnector "Landfall" option. The first attachment shows the grant of Nationally Important Infrastructure Project (NSIP) status to AQUIND on 30th July by the Dep't for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). The second, is a Joint Statement by Ofgem and CPRE dated 13th February 2025 in… Read More
Aquind Interconnector – Decision still pending 16 February 2025 On my daily walks on Milton Common I talk to locals. Almost unanimously they are convinced that the Aquind Interconnector project is over. There will be no trenches across the common, no traffic chaos up the Eastern Road – our local environment will not be trashed by this damaging unnecessary project. Sadly, THIS IS NOT THE CASE. THE FIGHT CONTINUES. Aquind have shown they will stop at nothing in their attempts to bully us all into submission. On the 20th January a document titled ”Applicants response to MOD submission” (14. October 2024} was published on the Planning Inspectorate (PINs) website. This document was published on PINs website after a three month delay – we are to… Read More
Recent Planning Decisions and Green Spaces 16 February 2025 Bransbury Leisure Centre was approved in December and in February a Conditional Grant of Planning Permission, was awarded to Vistry Southern for 58 homes including 18 “Affordable Units”on the site of the old Harbour School at St James. It’s intended that 100% of the new homes will eventually be secured as “Affordable” through a Homes England Grant, like Kingston Prison. At the same Committee, PJ Livesey were granted rights of access for construction vehicles to St James’s along Moorings Way, Warren Avenue and Edenbridge Road. Against the first two proposals, the Milton Neighbourhood Forum explained to the Planning Committee where the schemes conflicted with the Milton Neighbourhood Plan. W… Read More
Langstone Harbour – Environmental Management 14 February 2025 One of the most protected areas on the South coast, Langstone Harbour is internationally recognised for its significant habitats and species. As a vital ecological and recreationally asset for the City of Portsmouth, the harbour is home to a diverse range of habitats including mudflats, seagrass meadows, and Atlantic saltmarsh. Habitats like these across the Solent support an astonishing variety of wildlife, 10% of the global population of Dark-Bellied Brent Geese, and one of the only breeding populations of Harbour Seals on the South Coast! However, Langstone Harbour faces several significant threats. Climate change, with rising sea levels and increased unpredictability… Read More
Bransbury Leisure Centre Approved 23 January 2025 The Portsmouth City Council Planning Committee met in December to review the proposal for the new Leisure Centre in Bransbury Park. Everyone agreed that this was a much needed and well designed development, but the Neighbourhood Forum objected to the location of the new childrens play area (right next to a busy road when it could have been centrally placed in the park) and the extension of the car park in the south east corner of the park (over 450m from the leisure centre, so unlikely to be used by its patrons and not needed based on the traffic analysis). In spite of our objections, the development was approved without change and works are expected to begin soon. Full details will be sh… Read More

Bransbury 'Leisure Centre' Planning Application 09 December 2024 Updated plans for the proposed leisure centre and doctors surgery in Bransbury Park have been made available and will be discussed at Portsmouth City Council's planning committee meeting on December 18th. The council have produced a useful video that summarises the proposal - you can see it here. There has been significant debate within the Neighbourhood Forum - the proposed building itself, while not perfect, does meet with approval from almost everyone but the siting of the children's playground, the change of location for the changing rooms and the additional car parking spaces at the eastern end of the park have generated considerable debate. We hope some of these issues can continue… Read More

Housing Application on Former Harbour School, St James' Hospital Grounds 10 October 2024 Housebuilder "Vistry Group" has submitted a Plan to build 58 houses and 90 plus car-spaces on the former Harbour School site on St James' Hospital. It conforms with their public consultation on 19th July at Milton Village Hall. The site forms part of the Homes England parcel of the Hospital otherwise known as Phase 1. The Forum responded that we thought it a decent scheme in terms of layout and design with a pleasing central amenity area ("Orchard Park"), helping give it an attractive "sense of place". However, we commented the 50% loss of Biodiversity and the excessive parking was unacceptable. The layout of the houses; the "streetscape", with different building finishes… Read More
